Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury chronicles the summer of 12 year old Douglas Spaulding in the fictional town of Green Town, Illinois. Drawing from his own childhood, Bradbury captures the magic of the summer months, describing the enchanting experiences that seem otherworldly through a child’s eyes–getting a new pair of tennis shoes, walking down to the local ice cream shop at night, and the seemingly endless days of freedom, just to name a few.
Ever since I found this book on the library shelves (long before I became a librarian), I have read it during the first week of summer to kick off the season. This book is a nostalgic gem, bottling the essence of summer.
