This is a historical fiction novel about the writing and reception of the novel Doctor Zhivago during the height of the Cold War. When Boris Pasternak wrote the novel, it was considered very subversive. The CIA hatched a plot to have it published as a method to undermine the Soviets. The novel follows the stories of three female characters: two women in the US who work for the CIA, and Pasternak’s mistress in Russia. This novel is well crafted with very interesting characters, and it illuminates a fascinating piece of Cold War history.
