This is the first book in the very popular Mike Bowditch, Maine Game Warden series of mysteries by Camden, Maine author Paul Doiron. The son of divorced parents who had little to do with his drunken and abusive father post-divorce, Mike is a newly instated Maine Game Warden when he learns his fugitive father is being sort in a murder investigation. Torn between family and job, but still wanting to win his father’s love, Mike sets out to find the real killer with the help of veteran Game Warden pilot Charley Stevens. The investigation will soon put not only Mike’s life on the line but that of his family and friends. Mr. Doiron knows the Maine woods and does an admirably job of describing the life of our game wardens.
