DOGSPEAK: Understanding Your Dog, What They Need, and How To Live With Them

In 2022 Whitney Thurston became Downeast Maine’s only Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, and one of only three in Maine certified through the IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants) as having expertise in working with fearful and aggressive behavior problems. She has been training dogs for 9 years and oversees a team of three trainers who help dogs from Belfast to MDI. In this presentation, Whitney Thurston will cover: body language, how to make sure you’re meeting your dog’s needs, how to understand when something’s not right, how to communicate, to live peacefully and happily with your dog.

She donates behavior services to the dogs at Peace Ridge Sanctuary, the Bucksport Shelter, and the SPCA of Hancock County. Whitney lives and spends all of her free time in the woods of Brooklin with two shelter dogs Lana and Tessa, her husband Travis, and twin (human!) toddlers, Alice and Colm.
