What is a pathfinder?
Have you ever wanted to know more about a topic, but had no idea where to start? The internet provides a lot of information, but it can be difficult to sort fact from fiction. Whether you’re researching a paper or just want to satisfy your curiosity, a pathfinder might be a good place to start.
A pathfinder is a list of reliable resources about a specific topic. There are two pathfinders on this page. The first one is designed for kids. Please scroll down for the pathfinder for teens and adults.
Find a Cure for Cabin Fever
Are you sick of being stuck inside? This month’s pathfinder will give you inspiration to get out of the house and have some winter fun!
Winter in Maine means lots of snow. Have you already gone sledding, had a snowball fight, and built a family of snowmen? This site will give you some great ideas for other snow games and activities.

Sometimes it’s just too cold to go outside! Here are some fun indoor activities to keep you busy:
Incredible Indoor Games
Teens and Adults
Many of us stay inside during the cold weather or a storm. That may cause us to become a little stir crazy and we develop a sense of “cabin fever”. People feel cabin fever in the winter months when more time is spent indoors, and when interacting with the outside world is less frequent. We also experience a shortage of sun light due to our short days in the winter. Cabin fever affects everyone differently–here are some ideas to help.
There are lots of ideas on how to “cure” cabin fever and playing music is one of them. You can download 3 free songs a week at the new music site on the Ellsworth Public Library’s website (www.ellsworth.lib.me.us). The site is called Freegal–just click on “online resources” on the Library’s homepage and you will have access to hundreds of songs from the Sony Library.
To help you look for music, see a list of the best songs of 2012 at:
Another way of avoiding cabin fever may be to get lost in a good book. So plan on attending Ellsworth Public Library Cabin Fever Book Sale. There will be other items for sale too–such as movies and books on tape (and, the price is always right!).
The sale takes place Friday, February 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 9, from 9 a.m. To 1 p.m.
Select some books to look for at:
Spend a snowy afternoon watching a good movie. Check out the list of many at the following site. Or check the Libraries catalog (https://ellsworth.biblionix.com/atoz/catalog/) under “What’s Hot” to see what’s new here.
GOOD HEALTHY FOOD
Always important, but even more so in the winter!
PLENTY OF EXERCISE
Depending on what type of “winter weather” you are experiencing, this site will get you outdoors and doing things with your kids:

The Library has been offering programs on organizing (the next one is Feb. 13 at 1, PM) and frugality (the “Tightwad Exchange” meets every first Wed. of the month at noon). So this next website is for them.
