Beautiful Fall is upon us! Maine is a great place to experience the colors as cooler weather arrives. Check this site for the best foliage conditions all over Maine. Get weekly reports or check the foliage map before heading out to see the bright colors.  http://www.maine.gov/dacf/mfs/projects/fall_foliage/index.shtml

Mazes can be great fun. This site will explain how it all began and give you an inkling of how many different types there are. The site will also show you how to design your own.  http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/maze/index.htm

If you have the time (and the room), it would be fun to do a garden maze. The next site will provide you with the basics.  http://homeguides.sfgate.com/build-hedge-maze-68770.html

For specific plants to use for a garden maze and how to care for them, try this site. It also has suggestions for what garden mazes would be fun for children.  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/gardenprojects/3305508/A-maze-of-ones-own.html

It is also the time of year to carve the pumpkins. The “Old Farmers’ Almanac” will help you pick a good pumpkin to carve.  http://www.almanac.com/content/how-carve-pumpkin

See the kid’s section of this pathfinder to pick out a design for your pumpkin.  And see this site for the “how to do it” of pumpkin carving:  http://www.wikihow.com/Carve-a-Pumpkin

And this site will tell you how to clean and roast all those pumpkin seeds: http://ohsheglows.com/2012/09/17/how-to-roast-perfect-pumpkin-seeds-easy-crunchy-addictive/

Some fall craft ideas use Indian corn or ornamental corn. Try this site to harvest and make Indian corn decorations.  http://homeguides.sfgate.com/harvest-ornamental-corn-37392.html

There are also corn husk dolls to make. Check this site to see some pictures of corn husk dolls and get directions on how to make your own.  http://www.snowwowl.com/naartcornhuskdolls.html

Or see this site for some other “corn-inspired” crafts to make.  http://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/1019727/corn-inspired-fall-crafts-for-kids
